Results of Charcoal Powder Dirt Pick-up Test
Left:   COL.9®-based paint
Right: Standard dispersion paint

A crucial influencing factor for the dirt pick-up tendency of a facade paint is its surface hardness . If it is exposed to direct solar radiation in the summer, the surface of a facade can heat up to 80 degrees Celsius and more. Standard dispersion paints, however, usually become soft and tacky somewhere between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. As a result, soot and dirt particles stick to the surface of the coating. Due to the high share of the silicate component, COL.9, however, lacks this thermoplastic tackiness. The surface remains hard even at temperatures far in excess of 100 degrees Celsius.

Moreover, the mineral particles in COL.9 provide a hydrophilic paint surface , on which rain drops are evenly spread. Thus, dirt is washed off easily. Furthermore, the remaining thin water film dries fast, thus inhibiting the development of mildew and algae.
